![]() ![]() I love her to death, with every cell in my body and every fiber of my being. The best character is by far, no competition, Hani's mom. Nonetheless, hats off to Jaigirdar for some extremely effective writing. I almost wanted more from the ending of the novel, revenge-wise, but I understand that this is a YA contemporary romance and not an adult high-fantasy war story so. ![]() ![]() ![]() Every time they so much as breathed in Hani or Ishu's general direction I would feel myself seething. That being said, Jaigirdar is a genius when it comes to writing genuinely hate-inspiring characters. But it had big shoes to fill and it didn't quite meet the mark. It's still a good book and I still had a lot of fun with it and it still definitely made me emotional. It fundamentally changed me as a person, but Hani and Ishu's Guide to Fake Dating didn't have quite that same effect on me. Inevitably I was going to compare the two books, and The Henna Wars just means so much to me. Small disclaimer: I think I would have liked this more had I not already read The Henna Wars. ![]() ![]() ![]() Despite its dark themes, Finlay gives a balance of laugh-out-loud snark that makes this an easy, even uplifting, read. The AAPOR folk have asked me to provide tangible examples of the dangers of using big data to infer things about public opinion, and I am tempted to simply ask them all to read Dataclysm as exhibit A. Here’s what I’ve spent the last couple of days doing: alternatively reading Christian Rudder’s new book Dataclysm and proofreading a report by AAPOR which discusses the benefits, dangers, and ethics of using big data, which is mostly “found” data originally meant for some other purpose, as a replacement for public surveys, with their carefully constructed data collection processes and informed consent. ![]() ![]() ![]() The stars shot both After We Fell and After Ever After back to back, according to a post by the film's official Twitter profile.
